Alert Organizer allows users and administrators to do more than basic SharePoint
list alert subscription. Multiple conditions can be added to List or Document libraries
and Organizer can support multiple actions when the conditions are met. This Web
Part is developed to overcome the user frustration associated with default subscription
services, in which users are inundated with emails thereby decreasing its effectiveness.
Alert Organizer can include the following functionality:
Any column of the List or Library can be displayed in the Calendar. This removes
the restriction of showing only the Title column in the default MOSS 2007 calendars.
►
Alters can be set on any Lists or Document Library.
►
Configure alerts on date field, lookup field or any custom conditions business users
face every day.
►
Conditions can based on any CAML query (CAML query builder is provided).
►
Alerts can be configured against single list, multiple lists from same site or even
different web application.
►
Various actions can be set like, sending reminder email, creating other list items
or calling a web service for notifications.
►
Reminder emails can be configured to be sent over various time frame like hourly,
daily or weekly.
►
Emails can be customized (template based approach) to include the values from List
items that generated the alert.
►
Email recipients can be selected from SharePoint groups, Users or AD distribution
lists.
►
Multiple emails to same users from an alert can be grouped into a single email for
efficiency.
►
Alerts can be configured against Rollup Web Parts.
►
MyAlerts control will list the Alerts the current user is subscripted to.
Alert Organizer runs as a Windows service on the server and uses SharePoint timer
jobs for scheduling various tasks initiated by the Organizers. The Alert configuration
and results are maintained in a custom List, which can be easily viewed and monitored
by the Administrators.
