Description
SAI Data Viewer Web Part displays data from SQL table, Stored Procedure, SharePoint Lists in a Data View. Administrators or end users can configure the Web Part without the need for SharePoint Designer or complicated connection strings. Data Viewer Web Part provides integration of SharePoint with Business application data stored in external databases like Oracle and MS SQL servers.

The Data Viewer Web Part offers an efficient and cost-effective approach for the business users to view, search and edit data from any LOB applications. End users with no programming knowledge can customize the Web Part to view the data from either Databases or SharePoint List and display them in flat or hierarchical way.

SAI Data Viewer Web Part displays data from SharePoint List/Document Library, SQL table/view (Oracle or MS SQL Server), or SAI Rollup data Web Part without the need for SharePoint Designer. Since Designer is not used, Administrators can be assured that Web Pages are not un-ghosted accidently. All the functionalities offered by Data View and more are available in SAI Data Viewer Web Part, like dynamic grouping (Outlook style grouping by end users), filtering and sorting, exporting items to Microsoft Excel or PDF, and customizing the Web Part either with CSS or changing the Web Part skin to match the corporate standards.

Data Viewer Web Part allows users to work in an environment comfortable to them, say Microsoft Excel interface. Inline Child SharePoint List or SQL table/view data can be viewed in Master/Child relationship, just like Excel Pivot tables. Master and Child data can also come from different sources, for example, Customer details can be displayed from a SharePoint List and grouped below this will be the orders for the Customers, which is usually available in an external SQL table.

 Behind the scenes
Administrators during the Web Part setup will configure the data source; say SharePoint List, SQL Server, or Stored Procedures. Master and Child data set can be selected, if grid has to display the nested data. Master/child data can come from SharePoint List and/or SQL table, providing a real Mash up of application data to be viewed in SharePoint Portal. The columns to be displayed in Master/Child List can be selected. Optionally default grouping, filtering and sorting of data can be configured. The default settings can be changed by end users, if permission is provided. To match the corporate branding, Web Part look and feel can be customized by Wizard, CSS or selecting a skin.

 End User Experience
The following functionalities can be customized by end users based on the permission provided by Administrators.

Outlook Type Grouping: Drag and drop column headings to dynamically group the data. Drag as many columns as you want to display sub-groups of data.

Sort: Sort columns either Ascending, Descending or sorting can be disabled.

Filter: Filter the data to be displayed in the Web Part based on list of comparison operators, such as equal to, contains, starts with, etc.

Export to Excel/PDF: Export the grid data to Excel or PDF maintaining the data grouping. Nested data are exported as Pivot tables.

Nested Data: Users can view/edit SharePoint List or SQL table data. Data edit can occur within the grid or an inline form without the need to open SharePoint List or external application.
